COMM. 495 Public Service Campaigns

Taking Public Service Campaigns was one of the absolute best decisions that I have ever made. This was the first time the university offered this class and it was so much fun! We had a dinner in the beginning of the semester and we were able to network with various non-profit organizations. We were then able to pick our top 5 organizations that we felt really meant something to us and were paired with one for the remainder of the semester. I was paired with the Newport News Green Foundation; I was very passionate about what they do because I am originally from Newport News and would do anything to make the city bigger and better than it already was. I was able to attend board meetings and network with other board members, write press releases, and help plan and set up our annual meet and greet at the Warwick Yacht Club. I met so many amazing people through this process and learned more than I would have ever imagined about public relations, non-profit organizations, and what it was I wanted to actually pursue in the future.

Why I love the Newport News Green Foundation

To the left is a fun little video that I made for a class assignment. I was speaking about the organization that I was paired with (NNGF) and why I am so excited to advocate for them.

About NNGF & What I've Done -

This PowerPoint shares more information about the Newport News Green Foundation and it's benefits, activities that I participated in, and what I enjoyed the most. I was able to present this during class to my NNGF mentor throughout the semester to show her what it was that I gained from this experience.

Skills That Employers are Seeking

Public Service Campaigns has taught me so much to be thankful for. The biggest skill that I have taken away from this course is how to network. I have met so many amazing people and have been offered many different opportunities because of who I met at the NNGF. I was able to practice my public speaking at our meet and greet events and put my creative mind to work while helping decorate for our visitors. I was able to work in a team environment and create plans to help our city grow and produce less pollution. There are so many different skills that I was able to learn and practice while working with the Newport News Green Foundation. I will continue to grow with these skills and put them to use on my professional journey.
