The entrepreneurship course that I took was Entrepreneurship & PR. Throughout the semester we were split into groups of four where we would collaborate to finish big projects. These projects included topics such as: public relations, marketing, advertising and planning. It was fun to dig deeper into the topics that I felt comfortable with, such as public relations, then have a team to bounce ideas off of. Collaborating with my peers I gained so much knowledge on subjects that I had no prior experience in. I had a lot of fun with the planning and advertising aspects of this class and can use so much of this knowledge in other aspects of my life.
Forever a Monarch
During this assignment my group and I created a storyboard that would be a representation of an ODU commercial. While we were creating this we were all seniors, so it was meant to be portrayed as us looking back on what we have done before graduation. We hit key points about what makes ODU so special and those little things that if you went there, you would know them too. For example, the ODU vs VT football game was iconic.
Career Readiness
This was a social media campaign that my group and I completed over a week. It was a created to raise awareness about resources that were offered on campus to prepare students for life after graduation. I had so much fun doing this assignment because I learned so much about this university and what they have to offer. We created a content calendar and different ways that we were going to encourage students to get involved. If this was a real campaign, we would have done amazing.
SWOT Analysis
The situational analysis that I helped create for this class was the very first time I had ever completed this task. Thank goodness I had good mentorship because I had no clue all of the different moving parts that were involved, but I have completed many on my own since then. We did a SWOT analysis of all of the different competing universities that ODU has. We reviewed their strengths and weaknesses and made goals based off of them. This assignment helped opened my eyes to how much I truly love ODU compared to other colleges and universities.
Skills That Employers are Seeking
Throughout this course I gained so much technical knowledge and began to understand more about myself along the way. While working in a team structure it is easier to understand the true importance of planning, organizing, and prioritizing your work. When working with others your decisions not only impact you, but them as well. It is crucial to complete tasks accordingly and in a timely manner or else others will suffer from your mistakes. While creating the above documents my team and I used Google Suite and had effective communication to ensure that we were all on the same page about when we were meeting, who was working on which part, and upcoming due dates. I had so much fun during this my Entrepreneurship & PR class and I am thankful for the skills that I am taking away from it.
